It depends on the room. For a room you can dim, an OLED such as the LG C6 gives perfect black and the best contrast. For a bright living room, a Mini-LED such as the TCL QM7L or Hisense U8 is brighter and cheaper at big sizes. On a tight budget, the Hisense U6 Pro is the cheapest real Mini-LED we recommend.
OLED wins on contrast, black levels and viewing angles because each pixel makes its own light and can switch fully off. QLED and Mini-LED TVs win on peak brightness, cost less at large sizes, and carry no burn-in risk. Dim room: OLED. Sunny room: Mini-LED.
For 4K, a screen around 1 to 1.6 times your seating distance (in inches) feels right. Sitting 8 to 10 feet away suits a 65-inch TV; 10 to 12 feet suits 75 inches. Most people who regret a size wish they had gone bigger.
Around $400 to $650 buys a good 65-inch Mini-LED or QLED for everyday watching. Around $1,000 buys a bright 65-inch Mini-LED with strong gaming features. $1,300 to $1,500 buys a 65-inch OLED. Prices on Amazon change often, so we show the date next to every price.
Usually, yes. Thin TVs have little room for speakers that face you, so even a budget soundbar is one of the biggest upgrades you can make. See our soundbar setup guide.
